The second graders had a BLAST at the Topsfield Fair! They attended four classes and learned about bees and beekeeping, healthy eating, giant pumpkins and recycling. The bee session fits in perfectly with their study of insects and bees. Learning about healthy eating complimented their plants unit and the Tower Garden in their classroom. The recycling class helped reinforce the recycling and composting initiatives they are doing in school. As an added bonus, students had the chance to make their own beaded and wire jewelry, watch sheep’s wool being woven into yarn, and create quilts. They visited the cattle, poultry, rabbit and pig barns and saw multiple “Wilburs” and the famous goose from Charlotte’s Web. They ended their day at the petting zoo!
