STEM Camp at EHS is designed to offer campers an unforgettable summer experience that combines traditional camp activities and STEM enrichment to create the balance of learning and fun. The program is tailored to meet the unique interests of today's tech-savvy kids who want to explore robotics, rocketry, engineering, and more!

Meet the Director

LEA WINKLER (She/Her)

Lea Winkler has worked at Epstein Hillel School for 15 years, where she is currently the third grade general studies teacher and the STEM Coordinator for the school. As STEM Coordinator, Lea leads the STEM Team, a group of EHS faculty members who develop and implement STEM curricula for grades K-8 as well as special STEM programming for the school and the community. In addition, Lea co-directs the after-school program for Epstein Hillel School. For six years, Lea also worked at Ramah Day Camp in Nyack, NY. Lea received both her MAT (’10) and MEd (’18) from Brandeis University. When not teaching, Lea loves baking, knitting, crocheting, and reading.

Frequently Asked Questions

No! ALL children entering grades 3-6 who love STEM are encouraged to join us. You do not need to have any affiliation with EHS to participate in STEM camp.

In addition to daily blocks devoted to the STEM projects, each day will include free outdoor play time at the EHS playground and fields. There will also be daily breaks for snack and lunch.

Here is a sample daily schedule (subject to change):

9:00 AM: Drop-off
9:15-10:30 AM: STEM Class #1
10:30-10:45 AM: Snack
10:45 AM-12:00 PM: Continuation of STEM Class #1
12:00-1:00 PM: Lunch and outdoor time
1:00-3:00 PM: STEM Class #2
3:00 PM: Dismissal

For STEM projects, campers will be divided into two groups by grade, so that they are learning, engineering, designing, and collaborating with other kids in their age group. 

For lunch and outdoor play time, all ages will be together.

Each day, you should pack your child a nut-free snack, a nut-free lunch, and a water bottle. EHS has filtered water-filling stations throughout the building.

In addition to being nut-free, we also ask that you not pack meat in your child’s snack or lunch, as EHS is a Kosher facility.

STEM Camp will be based in our state-of-the-art (and air-conditioned) Innovation Center, complete with a computer lab, a laser cutter, 3D printers, and much more. Please enjoy the video below showcasing the Innovation Center.

STEM Camp will also make use of other classroom spaces in the school as well as the outdoor spaces surrounding the building. For free outdoor play time, STEM Camp will use the EHS playground and playing fields.

We have a laser cutter, 3D printers, wood tools, sewing machines, computers, and all the necessary materials needed to design and engineer your projects.

The Innovation Center is also air conditioned!

Yes! We would love for you to attend as many sessions as you would like!

Each session will feature unique projects and activities. There won’t be repeats, so your child may attend all four sessions and have different experiences each week.

No experience necessary! We will make sure each child has the necessary materials, tools, and knowledge to participate in all of the activities. Just come with your love of STEM!

The best way to answer your questions and concerns is to call us. Even though we are not a special needs program, we are always happy to try and work something out, or make a suggestion. To determine if a particular program is a good fit, begin by reviewing the session activities. Your child must be willing and able to participate, while remaining safe.

Yes! EHS is now offering a one-week Junior STEAM Program, the week of July 22-26, for children entering grades 1-2. Each day will explore an immersive STEAM experience, including architecture, outer space, robotics, LEGO engineering and animation, and ocean discovery.
